A female Red Phalarope in breeding plumage wades in a tundra pool on Cape Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, in June. Red Phalaropes breed in the Arctic tundra and are found at sea during migration and in winter. Unusual in the bird world, the males are paler than the females.
